Total Defence Day 2013

Welcome  back  everyone.

We have come to an end in commemorating TDD @ TKPS. Many activities were planned for the students of Telok Kurau. Packing of First-Aid box, water shortage, power failure, sampling and sale of 'war time' food etc....

Well, now its time for us to do some reflection.

Before that, let's watch this videos below.

1) Reflection on NE-mation video:

a) State a value you can identify from this video.

b) How is this value important in the Total Defence of Singapore?

2) Reflection on TDD_VIA:

a) As an individual, how can you play your part in a crisis/emergency to help others (Eg. friend, neighbour, family member) ?

3) Reflection on TDD Exercise @ TKPS:

a) How does the experience of the water shortage/war time food feel like and what does it mean to you?

We must protect Singapore from other countries. We should study hard to become clever, then we will earn money and can donate to the needy. We must be safe in everything we do all the time. When there is danger, we must tell the police. We must not litter. We must reduce, reuse and recycle. We can save the environment. We must not waste paper because it is made from trees. Trees are part of nature and we must protect the environment. We must help people who are less fortunate than us. We must always save electricity and water.

Value from the video: Harmony
In Social Defence, we must be in harmony.

We learn about the values of harmony, resilience, care and responsibility. In challenging situations, we need to be united to protect and help others in the family, in the community and within Singapore. We each have a role to play in helping in a crisis and emergency. We need to know simple things like applying first aid such as dressing a wound.

Reflection on NE-mation video:
a) Resilience.
b) We should not give up when there is trouble. We should work together to overcome the challenges that we may face.
Reflection on TDD_VIA:
a) We can play our part by calling the relevant authorities in times of emergency. We can also help others who suffer from minor injuries using the items inside the first aid box.
Reflection on the TDD Exercise @ TKPS:
a) The food is bland and had very little choice for us to make. It makes me sad because they had to suffer and eat those food everyday for 3 years.
b) It teaches to appreciate what is given to us, and appreciate the fact that Singapore is not going through war now. We are living in peace because of the defence by the Singapore Military and Civil Defence. We should also do our part in defending Singapore too.

1)The value of resilience is shown, for example in the first video, the children did not give up even though their sandcastle keeps getting destroyed, but find new ways to overcome their challenges. In the Total Defence of Singapore, we should never give up.

2)In an emergency, we should be calm and not panic, rush.

3)The experience is exciting but also a bit scary. It allows me to understand the feelings of people going through war and learn not to panic.

Video reiterated the need for everyone to defence singapore in our own personal way as we all play a part in total defence. Not to take what we have especially our safety for granted.

1) The value of resilience is shown in the video. We should never give up when Singapore is in crisis.
2) We should take care of ourselves first, be calm and listen to the instructions. Then we can go help people in need.
3) We must get ready for water shortage and power failure at all time. We must help out our friends in time of crisis.

1)Do not give up easily. Everyone plays a part to make sure Singapore is safe. Everyone must stay in harmony.
2)Stay alert and inform the police if there is any suspicious person or incident. Donate money to help the people in need.
3)We must not waste water and electricity. We felt sorry for the people who suffered during the war time. We should be thankful for what we have.

1) 'Harmony' & 'Resilience' are two values that were being displayed in the first video. These values are important in the Total Defence of Singapore as we, Singaporeans must stay united when faced with any challenges and threats whether within our own country or outside our country. As Singaporeans, we must always be ready and be resilient as these challenges and threats will not come once but many times i future.
2)It is not just enough getthing the first aid kit ready. We also need to know how to use the things in the kit. We also need to know how to treat simple injury so that we are ready and are able to help ourselves in times of emergency.
3)The exercise made us more appreciative of whatever we have at the moment and not take things for granted. It makes us aware of the kind of life experienced by those people whose countries are at war.

Reflection on the TDD Exercise @ TKPS:
a) Little choice of food and the food is dirty and not nutrious. We feel pity for them because they had to eat those food everyday and might become malnutrition. We should be contented with what food we get everyday and appreciate it.We should do our part to defence Singapore.

We need to be in Harmony with others so that we will be able to live in a safe place. As a student, we should help one another, study hard now so that when we grow up, we can contribute to Singapore.

Responsibility is the value that comes to our mind. Doing our part: Work together harmoniously, respect one another, help one another.
we were excited by the switching off of lights. But eventually we felt hot as the fans were also switched off.

1 Resilience said...

Value from the video: Resilience
We must not give up when faced with challenges and we have to play our part in Total Defence.

We can identify the value of care throughout the three videos. We must care for our friends' feelings, care about our surroundings and care for our friends who are in need/ sick.
Caring for our surroundings (people and environment) will contribute to total defence as we need to work in harmony and thus able to contribute to the economy. If we are able to care for each other, we will be able to defend our country.

TDD-VIA: I can help people who are injured or hurt by preparing a first aid kit on my own.

TDD-power failure: We feel very hot and we are sweating. We perspire. It is a scary experience. It is like we are in the desert. I feel bored. It is dark. I learn that I must do my part in saving electricity.

TDD-war food: I ate the sweet potato and it was sweet and I liked it. I ate yam. It was nice.

We felt very disappointed when we went to the canteen after our Sports Day and realised that the food sold in the canteen looked utterly unappetising. However, this helps to prepare us for times of emergency so that we can get used to the type of food which is available. Even if we do not like to eat them, we still have to do so as during wartime, we cannot afford to be fussy and pick our food.

One of the values that we learnt is "Responsibility". In times of emergency, we must be responsible and do our part to protect ourselves, our love ones and our country.

We tasted porridge, corn, and sweet potatoes. When we eat the food, we understand what kind of hardship that our fore fathers went through.
